Trump's Business Sought to Hire Nearly 200 Workers on Visas in 2025

Donald Trump’s family business accelerated its recruitment of overseas employees on temporary visas this year, while his government was placing obstacles for other companies attempting to do the same, a report published Thursday claimed.

According to information from the federal labor department, the business sought to hire at least 184 overseas employees in the coming year for temporary positions at the US president’s Florida property, two golf clubs and his winery in Virginia.

The quantity of applications for H-2A and H-2B visas for staff including servers, clerks, housekeepers, kitchen staff and farm workers was the record submitted by the company, and up from 121 in 2021, when Trump’s first term concluded.

It was also the fifth instance in 10 years that the former president had attempted to bring in more than 100 overseas workers for seasonal jobs at Mar-a-Lago, according to available data.

The revelation coincides with a crackdown on immigration laws by his government that has involved the introduction of a $100,000 fee on H1-B visas; extra scrutiny of the activities of the millions of people who already hold American work permits; and tighter regulations for international scholars and reporters.

Overall, the Trump Organization aimed to employ 566 foreign laborers over the five years the former president has been in the presidency, from his first term and during 2025.

Notably, Trump was criticized by some in the GOP this week for remarks justifying the necessity for foreign workers when a business was unable to find people with “particular skills” to occupy particular roles.

“You can’t just say a country is coming in, going to invest $10bn to build a facility, and going to recruit individuals off an unemployment line who haven’t worked in years, and they’re going to start making their missiles. It doesn’t work that well,” he told a host after she suggested that foreign workers lower the wages of US workers.

The administration declined a request for response, and the Trump Organization did not provide an answer to an request for information.
