The number of victims resulting from the transport jet which burst into flames and crashed has risen to 13, per recent statements.
Official's Remarks
Traveling to the Union’s candlelight gathering, I received word of a 13th person that died as a result of the UPS flight 2976 incident,” stated the municipal leader in a public communication. “My thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of all who were lost in this week’s calamity. We will overcome this as one.”
Victims Named
A statement from UPS identified the flight crew operating the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.
“Our thoughts are extended to every employee who has been touched and all in our community region – assisting you and ensuring you obtain the care and resources you need is our priority,” the firm’s statement stated.
Inquiry Details
Government authorities disclosed that the UPS cargo plane’s port side wing ignited and an engine separated soon after liftoff from the aviation hub, causing the plane to plummet and explode into a blaze.
The National Transportation Safety Board stated it is probing the jet’s service record, that was in Texas for maintenance a period before the incident.
Aviation data indicated the plane was on the tarmac in that location from the start of last month to last week.
“We are knowledgeable that this jet was there in San Antonio,” remarked an official on Thursday, without providing a specific period. “We will review each aspect of repairs that was performed, including the Texas period, straight to the date of the trip.”
Recovery of Critical Components
The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder were recovered, and the power plant was found on the airfield.
The devices – called flight recorders – were built to withstand collision damage and extreme temperatures from infernos, and they looked to be in one piece when located among the remains. Authorities will analyzing information from the recorders.
Aircraft’s concluding flight details showed an altitude of that level and a rate of that speed ahead of the accident.
Service Record
According to Federal Aviation Administration records from 18 September, a fissure on a structural piece in the tank area demanded repairs.
The company ST Engineering, which stated it supplies airframe maintenance for the carrier’s jet and manages a service location in that city, declined to speak, but expressed it would cooperate fully when investigators reached out it.
Operations Continue
At the same time, the facility services continued last night with its express or nighttime operation, spokesperson the company official said. Each of the three landing strips at the airport were also back in operation.
The distribution hub in this location is the firm’s biggest. The facility employs more than 20,000 individuals in the area, handles 300 trips per day and processes over a huge volume of items an hour.
Community Response
A candlelight vigil was conducted on the late afternoon of 6 November by the regional Teamsters Union, which acts for employees at the airfield, the organization’s primary air cargo hub.
Worker representatives, which supports staff, started the gathering with a moment of silence at 5.14pm, the rough moment of the crash two days earlier.
“This incident was so unexpected, so unforeseen,” the mayor told the crowd of two hundred. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to each of those who we have said farewell to.”
