Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice late to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
