Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
