Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a number of missiles," it added.

The statement noted wreckage fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
